Not paying attention for a moment, and you have scratches on the smartphone screen. Not only do they restrict your view, but if dropped, they could also prove to be a weak point in the glass and lead to a break. So that this doesn’t happen to you, we show you different ways to remove scratches on display.

Remove Scratches On Display Or Replace The Glass?
We must warn you before you try one of the methods we have suggested to remove the display scratch or scratches. The glass on your smartphone is not only used for protection but is the sensitive control element of the device. It also has an invisible, grease-repellent protective film that you can easily damage. Therefore, you should think carefully about the means you will use to edit it and whether it might not make more sense to replace the entire screen directly.
In principle, we recommend that you only use our suggested methods for very fine scratches on display. In the case of deeper furrows or even fractures, you should visit a specialist workshop and hire a professional. It costs more, but otherwise, with a little bad luck, you risk worsening the problem.
Use Baking Soda To Prevent Scratches On The Phone Screen
Often it is the simple things with which problems can be solved quickly and easily. If you stir two teaspoons of baking powder in a small bowl with a little water, you get a granular, mushy mass. You can use it to polish away the scratches on the phone screen. You should proceed as follows:
- Mask off all openings on your smartphone. The moist baking powder must not get into the loudspeaker, microphone, or jack socket.
- Take a clean cloth, apply some of the mixed paste to the scratch in the display and rub it in small circular movements. Do not press too hard.
- You can then wipe away the paste with a second, slightly dampened microfiber cloth. If the scratch is still there, you repeat the whole thing.
Toothpaste Also Helps Against Display Scratches
If you can’t find baking soda in the kitchen, take a look in the bathroom mirror. This is where you will probably keep your toothpaste, which is also great for removing scratches on display. In contrast to the baking powder method, you don’t have to touch anything. The toothpaste is already in a pulpy state, including small abrasive particles that help to process the glass.
Very important: Make sure that the toothpaste particles are not too coarse. Otherwise, you will get even more scratches on display. Otherwise, the process is the same:
- Tape up the openings on your smartphone so that the toothpaste cannot get in anywhere
- Take a clean cloth, apply some toothpaste to the scratch in the display, and rub it in small circular movements. Do not press too hard.
- Then you take a microfiber cloth and wipe the toothpaste away. If the scratch is still there, you repeat the whole thing.
Are Professional Polishes An Alternative?
If you don’t have toothpaste or baking powder in the house, you should go shopping again soon. Joking aside: You can find alternatives to budgetary funds on the Internet or your trusted electronics retailer. Take a close look at the product with which you want to remove the scratches on display and, ideally, read the user experience because here, too, caution should be exercised. Chemicals that are too harsh can cause even greater damage. However, if even that doesn’t help, you have to change the entire display for better or worse.
Fend Off Display Scratches With Armored Glass And Protective Films
If you’re reading this, it’s probably too late because the display scratch is already there and cannot be removed. Nevertheless, we want to give you a well-intentioned tip so that you don’t have to resort to baking powder, toothpaste, or polish again in the future.
Use a screen protector for your smartphone. Here you have the choice between the rigid but resistant bulletproof glass, the simple plastic film, or the liquid mixture that covers the screen as a protective film. All three variants cost you a maximum of 25 euros and are definitely worth the investment.
